Dr. Esposito the founder of AlignLife Nutraceuticals, a nutritional formulator, author and much more, notes on his website that when looking into the actual clinical trials the evidence of this amazing weight loss wonder drug is lacking. Dieters on Alli reported weight loss of only 1 pound a month. Are you kidding me! ONE POUND! Anyone can lose one pound a month! If you just reduced your intake of pop, you would lose one pound a month!
On top of not being very effective, the side effects of Alli are...well...embarrassing. If your goal of weight loss is not to just be healthier, but to look better, Alli is completely counterproductive. As explained above, Alli works by blocking Lipase and riding your body of undigested fat. Well the proper follow up question would be, How does it get rid of the fat? The answer is through uncontrollable anal leakage. Yes I am 100% serious. You should not be surprised if you find oily spots on your underwear or pants. Or as described on Alli's websites, "looks like the oil on top of a pizza."
In addition to anal leakage, which is itself a disaster waiting to happen, excessive farting is also a common side effect. Incontinence (inability to control bowels) and excessive flatulence do not seem to me as a magic bullet for weight loss. This sounds like a horrible dream that I need to wake up from.
Now back to how Alli works inside the body. Alli is very good at blocking fat from being digested and absorbed, however it is too good. It blocks all fat. It not only blocks the fat that gathers around our belly and thighs, it also blocks the good fats! The drug cannot distinguish between good and bad fats. For example it will block Omega-3 fatty acids from being digested. Omega-3 fatty acids are vital for healthy brain development and function.
Alli only blocks the absorbtion of fat. WRONG! Alli also directly blocks the absorbtion of the four fat soluble vitamins, Vitamin's A, D, K and E. Vitamin D deficiency is extremely high in America and even more severe in those that are obese. Vitamin D is bound to fat and when the fat is digested and absorbed so is the vitamin. As a result, obese Americans who are on Alli hoping to lose weight are putting themselves at potential risk of many disease associated with Vitamin D deficiency; depression, diabetes, prostate cancer, osteoporosis are some examples.
In defense of Alli and its nasty side effects, they do claim that consumers are warned of these side effects and they suggest Alli should be coupled with a high quality multivitamin supplement. Maybe this notation is made in the fine print at the bottom of your screen that you can never read? Unfortunately they know that most customers of Alli are mislead by their happy ads using "real people" who take NO money for the statements and make truly personal statements about their results!
To make Alli even more appealing 32 cases of serious liver injuries of Alli users has been recently reported. Of the 32 cases, 6 resulted in liver failure and 27 required hospitalization. The FDA has begun an investigation into Alli and how it has had a hand in these cases.
Unfortunately Americans and many others will not stop searching for the magic bullet to weight loss. Alli is just another short term "fix" that has a great marketing team behind it. While on Alli, consumers feel that they can eat anything because they are not going to absorb the fat. Well that's great, but once you quit taking Alli you will have gained nothing. You will go right back to your old weight because you changed none of your unhealthy habits.
Alli is not healthy and it does not promote healthy lifestyle changes. If you want to lose weight to look, feel and be healthier talk to Joella and let her set you up for success!
