You watch what your child eats when they’re with you. You do everything you can to keep the junk food away from them. You make them eat their veggies, their fruit, their meat and their carbs, but when they’re at school, do you know what they’re eating?
-
Do you have a child who overeats?
-
Do you have a child that eats all the wrong foods?
-
Do you make sure your child eats right at home, gets the exercise they need and they still won’t lose weight?
If this is the case, then you need to find out what your child eats at school.
-
Can they go through the lunch line more than once?
-
Do they get snacks?
-
What do they drink? Milk, Chocolate Milk, Juice, Pop?
-
What about sauces and dressings? Do they eat too many of these?
-
Is your child eating fried foods and foods high in carbs?
If you have a child that overeats and you can’t get them to lose weight, try the following…
-
Pack your child’s lunch and don’t give your child money to buy extra snacks.
-
If you want your child to buy lunch, ask the teacher or lunch monitor to watch what your child eats.
-
Make sure they only let the child go through the lunch line once.
-
Don’t allow your child to buy snacks at school and ask the teachers if they’ll help watch this.
-
If your child is in a private school, then volunteer to help at lunch so you can watch what your child is eating.
Most of all, explain to your child what they should be eating. Teach good nutrition at home and how to eat a balanced diet and talk about portion sizes so the child understands how much they should be eating. It’s also never to early to discuss the health risks associated with overeating. Don’t focus as much on weight as being sick and needing to get shots and be in the hospital if they don’t take care of themselves. We don’t like to use fear to teach our children, but they should face the reality of what a bad diet and bad nutrition can do to their way of life.
