Over Scheduled Kids by Joella Baker
As our kids get ready for their Fall sport season, it's important as parents that we keep an eye on how our kids are responding to the pressures of crazy schedules and tough workouts. It's certainly not easy. We all get caught up in getting from one sport to the next or to music lessons, or family functions. Finding down time when the kids can just be kids may be hard to come by. I know I fall into this trap personally. The schedules our families have to keep at times makes it tough on all of us and trying to find a good balance and make sure we're all getting the rest we need and time to just decompress.

Why Kids Should Tri? By: Joella Baker
Sports should be one of the most enjoyable and educational activities our children get to do. When kids participate in a triathlon, they will swim a short distance, bike a little and run. However, a triathlon is more than doing three things they love most (swim, bike, and run). The gift of participating in the sport allows a child to be immersed in a world that teaches life lessons, without them even knowing what they're learning. The one thing they do know is they are having fun.

Reports state that more than 17% of children are now overweight. This is an alarming number and at Get Fit Families, we are working to tackle that problem. Children these days are faced with "adult" diseases like high blood pressure, high sugar, high cholesterol and more. More than ever, it's important to watch what our kids are doing and what our kids are eating so these problems don't get worse.
How do we do this?

Do you remember when we were kids? When playing meant getting out of the house for hours with your siblings, friends, cousins and neighbors in your back yard or in your neighborhood. Climbing trees, playing kickball, freeze tag or hide and seek. Exploring any wooded area you could find for insects, animals or fossils. Or going sled riding in the winter until you couldn't feel your fingers or toes.
