19 weeks to the Ironman

Well, it's 19 weeks to the Ironman and I'm injured.  Last Thursday while doing my normal Thursday interval workout I pulled my calf muscle.

I honestly thought I tore something.  I couldn't believe a calf muscle pull could hurt so badly.  After seeing the ortho doc, I was relieved to hear it wasn't too serious and that a week or two off from any running would do the trick.

Of course, I had a race this past weekend.  I was good, I didn't run.  But let me tell you how tough it was to come into teh transition from the bike and not head out on the run.  It was incredibly tough.  I'm not one to drop out of races and to have to do that was tough.  But, I lived through it and I know I'll be thankful later that I didn't try to run.

Despite the fact that I didn't run, I still had a good weekend.  I completed a 2 mile open water swim in 58:26.  I beat my time from last year by 4 minutes.  I also swam really well at the Dam Tri and I biked well.  So the whole weekend wasn't a loss.

I swam 1500 yards very easy yesterday and I started cold laser therapy on my calf, as well as new stretches and strengthening exercises.  Hopefully it will all work and I'll be ready to do well in my 1/2 Ironman at Musselman in a few weeks.

This morning I swam 4000 yards and I'm hoping to swim some more this afternoon before I hop on the spin bike.

I do have to say thanks to my support group.  My husband and all of my friends have been great in supporting me through this injury.  I know in the long run things will work out.  I just need to rest and recover.
