Get Fit Individual of the Week
Name: Alice Wiesner
City: Cranberry TWP
What activities do you participate in? (swim, bike, run, hike, etc.) Swim, bike, run, core and strength training, softball, and volleyball
What is your favorite sport? I’d have to say biking although I don’t get to bike as much as I would like.
What are your goals? My ultimate goal is to feel strong and healthy both physically and emotionally. When I’m moving and I’m outside, I’m (almost always) feeling that way. I also have other goals like to improve my time and to feel better and stronger when I race.
What motivates you? The possibility of how I would feel if I didn’t work out both physically and mentally. Working out and training for a goal keeps me on track almost all of the time with everything in my life. I’m just happier when I work out.
What’s your favorite food? Anything seafood…I grew up on that stuff in New Orleans. I also love and actually crave protein when I’m training hard…so nuts and eggs are always a part of my diet.
What’s your favorite song, band or music to listen to when exercising? Anything upbeat and loud. I’m not picky….
If you could pick one athlete to talk to or workout with, who would it be and why? Part of me would love to bike with/talk to Lance Armstrong. The guy is amazing and has really done so much in his life. The other part of me would love to talk to those who face severe adversity but still manage to compete and move like amputee’s or Dick Hoyt, the father who completed six Ironman triathlons with his disbled son in tow. If these people can keep moving, then of course I can as well.
What is your favorite sports drink and energy fuel? I drink Gatorade or G2 when working out. I also like (relatively to the others) Vanilla Bean Gu when working out for a long time. It is really the only one that doesn’t make me gag.
If you compete, what is the one race or competition you would like to do at least once? My goal is to do a half iron man in the next year and a half. What is your favorite race you’ve competed in? Anything with friends or family. I did a triathlon in Virginia about 6 years ago with 5 members of my family and had a blast. Also, the Pittsburgh marathon was awesome since I had so many friends racing (and to train with).
List some of your major athletic or health accomplishments? I’ve completed over 15 triathlons and 2 marathons. I would say that the marathons are the biggest accomplishments because I said I would never run after college.
Anything else you would like to add? I have found the best motivation for me to push myself is to sign up for something with a group of people so that you have people to train with and you can’t back out J.
